Recently I have been receiving a lot of strange and interesting dreams and it started something new in my life…dream interpretations. It made me so curious to find out how in His Word, God spoke to His people through their dreams.

I’ve had many dreams that woke me up crying and feeling like I literally went through it! Then there are the dreams that just wakes you up with tears of joy.

I’ve had only two or three dreams (that I can remember) where I could hear God talk to me or see Jesus. I always wake up feeling so loved and accepted. On the flip side I’ve also been attacked by demonic dreams as well, but God uses those dreams to reveal something to me. So, He flips the coin on the enemy (hehe).

In the Bible there are many examples of people receiving dreams from God that always prophecy of future events, but God doesn’t just give it to you straight He makes you curious about your dream so that you can consult Him for the interpretation.

I think the best example of a “dreamer” has got to be Joseph, he had a dream where his father and older brothers felt insulted by it but in the end, it came to pass.

I can only imagine how prideful he must have been because of his dream where everyone bowed down to him.

5 Now Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him even more. 6 He said to them, “Please listen to [the details of] this dream which I have dreamed; 7 we [brothers] were binding sheaves [of grain stalks] in the field, and lo, my sheaf [suddenly] got up and stood upright and remained standing; and behold, your sheaves stood all around my sheaf and bowed down [in respect].” 8 His brothers said to him, “Are you actually going to reign over us? Are you really going to rule and govern us as your subjects?” So they hated him even more for [telling them about] his dreams and for his [arrogant] words. – Genesis 37:5-8

God knew his heart and made sure that what He had planned for Joseph he would have to humble him a lot for the position he was going to get in the future. God can’t work with you if you are full of pride.

A man’s pride and sense of self-importance will bring him down,
But he who has a humble spirit will obtain honor. – Proverbs 29:23

So (I think) that is why God took so long to put Joseph in the position He wanted to use him in, so that He could work on the heart of Joseph, to make sure that he was very humble. Especially for the day where he would meet his brothers and father again. I believe that God gave Joseph the gift of dream interpretation to set him apart and to help him have a hope for his own future.

5 Then the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, both dreamed a dream in the same night, each man with his [own significant] dream and each dream with its [personal] interpretation. 6 When Joseph came to them in the morning and looked at them, [he saw that] they were sad and depressed. 7 So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were in confinement with him in his master’s house, “Why do you look so down-hearted today?” 8 And they said to him, “We have [each] dreamed [distinct] dreams and there is no one to interpret them.” So, Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell me [your dreams].” – Genesis 40:5-8

There are many examples where God gave dreams of events to come, when we tell our dreams to someone we speak life into it, in other words we prophecy it! God is such a Master at creating the perfect story line and setting things up.

He can create something out of nothing, He can even create a future out of one simple dream!
